Part Time – up to 24 hours per week
£24,000 Full Time Equivalent per annum

ABOUT US

The Living Room Cinema Chipping Norton is a luxurious boutique cinema on Chipping Norton’s charming High Street, which opened in July 2023. We are home to two intimate cinema screens with armchairs and sofas with a vibrant cafe-bar serving the best in local coffee by day, and transforming into an elegant wine and cocktail bar and event space come evening.

Our carefully-curated film programme consists of the biggest and best new releases, paired with foreign-language, arthouse and independent titles, as well as live event cinema and children’s films at our weekly kids’ club.

As a Front of House Manager, you will bring a wealth of hospitality experience to our growing business, supporting our General Manager in the day-to-day operations. You will work alongside a tight-knit team of people who are passionate about guest experience, take pride in the details, and love what they do.

We are looking for a flexible part time candidate to add to our existing team. Weekend and evening work will be required for this role and you will also need to be available throughout school holidays. You will work a variety of shifts over a seven-day period.

Only applicants over the age of 18 will be considered.

ABOUT THE ROLE

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll be working alongside the rest of the management team to ensure the smooth running of the cinema on a day-to-day basis. This will include:
● Leading our Front of House team to deliver the warmest welcome and best customer experience for all of our guests, and supporting the team in all of their duties
● Ensuring the success of private hires and events, from intimate birthday parties and business meetings to big, all-out bashes for our high-profile clients
● Answering queries from our guests and members in person and via email
● Placing orders with our local and wholesale suppliers and maintaining stock levels
● Learning how to operate our projection equipment, ingest film drives, and build film playlists (full training will be given—you’ll be a cinema whizz in no time!)
● Ensuring that high standards of food safety, security and health and safety are always maintained throughout the venue and we are adhering to our licencing requirements at all times
● Making and serving food and drink from our menu of hot food, cocktails, artisan coffee and more
● Keeping the cinema looking top-notch at all times, from the foyer to the bathrooms and everything in between
● Opening and closing the business, including end of day procedures
● All other reasonable duties to support the General Manager in the smooth running of the business

ABOUT YOU

Must Haves

● Experience working in a hospitality environment that delivers first-class customer service, in a managerial or supervisory capacity. You don’t have to have worked in a cinema before, but it’s essential that you’ve held a leadership role in a restaurant, bar, or other venue, ideally in a high end establishment
● You’ll be a natural leader with the ability to delegate effectively, motivate your team, build relationships with everyone from the Front of House to Senior Management teams, and help make The Living Room Cinema a great place to work
● The host(ess) with the most(est)—you’ll be able to speak to our guests and members knowledgeably and confidently, giving every guest a warm welcome and the same exceptional service, no matter who they are or what they need
● Cinemas can be exceptionally busy, so you’ll need to have a cool head in busy periods, be able to prioritise, multitask and think on your feet
● You’ll be comfortable working with IT systems, with the ability to learn how our till, ticketing and booking systems work, as well as the projection equipment
● Ability to work flexibly including evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential
● You can be a classic film buff, a horror junkie or anything in between, but a genuine love of film is a must!

Nice to Haves

● Barista and/or cocktail-making experience. There will be times when you need to pitch in behind the bar, and get into the nitty gritty of making the perfect cappuccino or cosmopolitan, so having a head start would be beneficial
● Cash handling experience is desirable
● An understanding of operational targets, how to reach these, and an interest in learning about how our business works
● A passion for the local area and an understanding of local businesses
● Current First Aid at Work certificate is desirable, but if you don’t have one, you will soon!

A DAY IN THE LIFE

You will predominantly work a mix of open and close shifts, either 8am-4pm or 4pm-Close. On a closing shift, you might: Make sure the bar is prepped for your evening service and two sold-out screenings. You’ll welcome your first cinemagoers into the screen, serving them wine, scooping freshly-warmed popcorn and supervising a staff member making pizzas. You have a catch up with our Membership and Events Coordinator about an upcoming private birthday screening. In between screenings you might spend some time answering customer queries via email, or talking a new guest through our membership options, before printing out cast sheets for tomorrow’s Royal Opera House Live show. Then you’ll knock up an espresso martini and an old fashioned for a couple who have arrived for cocktails, before cleaning the auditorium for the next screening.

No two days at The Living Room Cinema are the same, and that's part of the unique charm of working in cinema.
